Frosted Colt Wins Maribyrnong Trial

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 3

Earlier this week Breednet highlighted the prospects of Darley shuttler Frosted (USA) enjoying immediate success this weekend and the champion son of Tapit duly delivered producing first and third in the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday for Godolphin.

The James Cummings trained colt Ingratiating was a standout in the mounting yard with his big powerful physique and tractable demeanour proving instantly eye-catching.

He ran up to his good looks, powering clear of the favourite General Beau to win by a length under Damien Oliver with Frosted filly Cloudy best of the rest in third place.

“We’ve produced three of these Frosted’s now, last week The Globe and now this colt, and we’ve always had a good feel about him, it’s a super result,” said stable representative Sean Keogh.

“Damien sat just off the speed and when he produced this colt, he showed an electric turn of foot. He has natural speed and toughness with plenty of scope to come.”

A homebred for Godolphin, Ingratiating is the fourth foal to race and fourth winner from Lonhro’s Group II winning daughter Obsequious.

Ingratiating provided Darley with a dream result for his sire Frosted!

Obsequious has a yearling filly by Sepoy and was covered again last spring by Frosted.

Ingratiating is the first stakes-winner worldwide for Frosted, whose first North American bred progeny are two year-olds this year and include Travel Column, who was third in the Group I Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland earlier today.

Triple Group I winner Frosted is back in Victoria this spring for Darley and stands at a fee of $22,000.
