New HK Stakes-Winner for Exceed and Excel

Tara Madgwick - Thursday October 1

Yet another stakes-winner bred and sold by Segenhoe Stud, talented Exceed and Excel four yea-rold Computer Patch put in a career best performance to win the Group III National Day Cup (1000m) a Sha Tin on Thursday.

Trained by Tony Cruz and ridden by Joao Moreira, Computer Patch surged forward and dominated , powering clear to win by nearly three lengths in a slick 55.84 seconds

“This horse gave me a very good feeling when I was aboard him last time for John Moore and his win today did not come as a surprise to me,” Moreira said.

“He’s given me that feeling all along that he has ability and it was just a matter of time until he grabbed a Group-race win, fortunately today was the day and I couldn’t be more pleased.”

Computer Patch’s victory was his first for his new handler Tony Cruz and he did it at his second start for the two-time champion trainer.

“First-up he wasn’t 100 percent fit, but today he was really tuned-up and I expected him to win today. There’s no choice, he will have to go up to 1200 metres and I believe he can do it,” Cruz said.

An $800,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Segenhoe draft for George Moore Bloodstock, Computer Patch was the most expensive yearling by Exceed and Excel sold in 2018 and  started his career in Australia for Ron Quinton starting just three times at two for a debut win at Randwick.

Bred and sold by Segenhoe, Sun Patch is a half-brother to Group I winner Manuel, Group III winner Taking Aim and Group III placed Witherspoon being the fourth winner from four to race from stakes-winning Hussonet (USA) mare Girl Hussler.

Segenhoe sold a Snitzel colt from Girl Hussler at Inglis Easter this year for $875,000 to George Moore Bloodstock / China Horse Club / Newgate Bloodstock. She has no yearling for the sales next year.

Computer Patch is the 177th stakes-winner worldwide for Darley’s champion sire Exceed and Excel.
