One to Watch – Murray Bridge

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday September 30

He’s taken a little while to come to hand, but the half-brother to Champion 3YO Filly Sunlight showed potential when bolting clear to win as he pleased at Murray Bridge on Wednesday.

Trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy as was his half-sister Sunlight, three year-old Sebring colt Halogen could manage only fourth when resuming from a spell on September 9, but was a different horse today.

He warmed to his task over the concluding stages to take the 1200m maiden by three and three-quarter lengths at his third start.

A $650,000 Inglis Easter purchase for McEvoy Mitchell Racing from the Widden Stud draft, Halogen runs for a big syndicate that includes Qatar Bloodstock, Seymour Bloodstock, Telemon Stud and Widden Stud among others.

Halogen as a yearling

Halogen is a full brother to Group III placed Sheikha and half-brother to $6.5million earning triple Group I winner Sunlight and Group III winner Sisstar being the fifth winner from stellar producer Solar Charged.

Widden Stud sold a Zoustar colt from Solar Charged at Inglis Easter this year for $1.1million to Hawkes Racing and he has been named Dio.

Solar Charged had no foal last year, but recently produced another stunning colt foal by Zoustar.

Born at Widden Stud on September 3 is this Zoustar colt from Solar Charged

This family has been making headlines for all the right reasons this year with Sunlight selling for $4.2 million at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale to Tom Magnier.
