Vadamos

On Tuesday Vadamos sired his tenth individual winner with the Ralph Beckett-trained Desert Empire successful at Lingfield.

Desert Empire was making his race debut under the guidance of jockey Tom Marquand and he proved too strong at the finish of his 1600m race. He is one of four Vadamos juveniles holding early nominations for the 2021 Gr.1 Investec Epsom Derby.

Winning on Saturday for Vadamos was the Andrew Balding-trained Oo de Lally (pictured), with a victory over 1400m at Newbury when starting at long odds.

‘The son of Vadamos was far more professional at his second start and there appeared no fluke about the result.’ - Racing Post

Balding said: "That was a pleasant surprise. I quite liked him before Ascot but he didn't show a lot there and we thought he might be one for a bit further in time, but he knew his job today, travelled strong and got the job done.”

Another son of Vadamos soon to be included in the sires winning tally is the Karl Burkett-trained colt Spycatcher, who showcased his talent when placing second in last month’s Gr.3 Tattersalls Acomb Stakes (1400m) at York.

The son of Vadamos showed exciting speed to close fast late and to get within 1½ lengths of Te Akau Racing’s Exceed and Excel filly.

Purchased out of Rich Hill’s 2020 Karaka yearling draft for $160,000 by Auckland trainer Danny Walker, the Vadamos gelding is a half-brother to stakes winner Qiji Express and is from the family of Group 1 stars Katie Lee, Banchee and Gee I Jane.

“In talking with local and Australian trainers there’s a lot of excitement about Vadamos’ Australasian progeny," said John Thompson.

"There is a genuine belief that he will have some lovely autumn two-year-olds.

“Danny Walker’s gelding out of our mare Miss Krisdel showed a great attitude and a lot of ability at his Ellerslie trial. Danny’s bringing him back into work in a fortnight and is looking to target races like the Group Three Matamata Slipper and possibly the Group One Manawatu Sires Produce.”
