Class Rules in G2 Stocks Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 25

Winner of the Group I VRC Australian Guineas and $5million All Star Mile last year before finishing fifth in the Cox Plate, Mystic Journey had a massive class edge over her rivals in the Group II MVRC Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night and duly returned to the winner’s list.

Trained in Tasmania by Adam Trinder, Mystic Journey was lacklustre in her first two runs back from a spell but showed her old form under Luke Currie to power home and beat classy WA mare Perfect Jewel by half a neck in a stirring finish.

“Adam said to me he thought she was back to her best and as good as ever and he was right,” said Currie.

A modest $11,000 Magic Millions Tasmania purchase for her trainer from the Armidale Stud draft, Mystic Journey runs for owner Wayne Roser has the impressive record of 12 wins and a second from 21 starts with prizemoney topping $3.8million.

Mystic Journey is the best of four winners from White Gold, who sadly died last year and her last foal, a filly by Fighting Sun made $200,000 at Inglis Premier this year.

Mystic Journey is the flagship performer for her sire Needs Further, who transferred this year from Armidale Stud in Victoria to stand for Aquis in Victoria.

The blue-blooded son of Encosta de Lago stands at a fee of $13,750.

Needs Further is standing in Victoria this spring at Aquis
