Zoffany Import Wins G3 JRA Cup

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 25

Seven year-old Zoffany gelding Al Galayel (IRE) has never been going better, scoring a powerful win in the Group III MVRC JRA Cup (2040m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Al Galayel had won his two previous starts at Moonee Valley and Caulfield and kept up the good work to make it three wins in a row when forging clear to win by two and a quarter lengths.

“He’s a credit to our team to get him back as he had an injury and had a long time off,” said David Eustace.

“We’ll look at the Country Cups for him and maybe the Coongy. He’s still in the Caufield Cup, so we’d have to have a look at that.”

Al Galayel had not won a Black Type race before tonight and now has the overall record of nine wins and five placings from 26 starts with prizemoney in excess of $580,000.

The 37th stakes-winner for Dansili sire Zoffany, who shuttled to Coolmore Australia for four seasons, Al Galayel is a three-quarter brother in blood to another Zoffany stakes-winner in Encapsulation.

He is the best of six winners from Glympse, a half-sister by Spectrum to the dam of Hong Kong Horse of the Year Designs on Rome.

This female family has also had success in Australia producing Group I winner Alabama Express.
