Hat-Trick for Exciting Nicconi Filly

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday September 23

Tony and Calvin McEvoy have been patient with talented Nicconi filly Celestine, who posted her third win from as many starts when scoring at Flemington on Wednesday.

A debut winner at Murray Bridge in July before winning at Morphettville last month, Celestine was taking a step forward here and handled the class rise with ease, cruising clear from off the pace to win the 1000m dash by a length and a half.

“It’s nice to see her take that step up to a Flemington race,” said Calvin McEvoy.

“She’s not an easy horse to train at Flemington so will go back to South Australia for now and then target another race over here.”

A $145,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Newhaven Park draft for JHB Syndications / McEvoy Mitchell Racing, Celestine is the second winner from Gleams, an unraced Northern Meteor daughter of stakes-placed La Belle Chataigne.

Gleams has another yearling colt by Nicconi to follow so the Kelly’s at Newhaven Park will be most happy to have seen Celestine come out and win so nicely.

Celestine looks to have stakes potential for the future and is another slick speedster for Widden Stud’s Nicconi, who stands at a fee of $27,500.
