Deep Field Colt Sets Inglis Breeze Up Record

Media Release - Sunday September 20

The fastest time in Inglis Ready2Race breeze up history was recorded at Warwick Farm on Friday in a session that showcased some extraordinary talent.

A Deep Field x Sugar Bay colt (lot 135) of Blake Ryan Racing stole the show, recording a scintillating time of 9.95secs, with its breeze video and all videos from Friday’s action now available at inglis.com.au.

Others to excel included lot 35 - a Capitalist x Lady Sniper colt of Glenn Haven Thoroughbreds (10.17secs) - lot 164 (Blake Ryan’s Shalaa x Zarakiysha colt in a time of 10.18secs) and 2YOs by the likes of Zoustar, Hinchinbrook, Not A Single Doubt, More Than Ready, American Pharoah and Winning Rupert among others.

Ryan, this year’s Ready2Race leading vendor by numbers with 18 lots, was thrilled but not shocked by the speed of his Deep Field colt.

“He is an absolute jet, one of the sharpest horses I’ve ever sat on,’’ Ryan said.

“I said to a couple of people earlier in the day, half joking but half serious, ‘he’ll break 10 that Deep Field colt’ and they looked at me funny but he sure showed them.

“He’s got a great brain, he’ll canter around all day for you, you could nearly go chasing cattle on him but as soon as you ask him to go, he knows it’s go time and he produces.

That’s what I like most about him, he knows when to switch off and knows when to switch on.’’

Ryan breezed 17 of his overall draft at Warwick Farm and was delighted with their efforts.

“Really happy with them as a collective. They came here and they handled everything great and that’s so important to see, they didn’t put a foot wrong, they went out and basically all of them breezed to expectation or better,’’ Ryan said.

“The Shalaa is a beautiful horse with great ability and moves like a seven furlong horse, the Duporth (lot 58) that went with him was lovely and in HK Duporth has had 14 starters for 13 winners as a stallion so I think he’ll be popular.

"The American Pharoah (lot 163) went really well and is strong with a great reach, the Press Statement (lot 143) is a real trainers’ horse and the Holler (lot 10) is the same, and the Capitalist colt (lot 186) unfortunately, he was on track to run a really good time but he shied at the winning post and touched the rail and lost his action and I reckon he lost three lengths doing it but I’m sure buyers will see in the gallop up to that point how great his stride and action is and how good he really goes.

“It’s just a really nice overall draft, the best I’ve ever presented.’’

Mitchell Bloodstock breezed up three horses at Warwick Farm and were thrilled with each of them, especially the Capitalist x Lady Sniper colt which clocked 10.17secs, that they purchased at the Classic Yearling Sale in February for $170,000.

“We selected this horse specifically for the breeze up sales and he looked fast from day one,’’ Bill Mitchell said.

“His attitude and the way he goes about his work is outstanding. We had a feeling he would breeze in a fast time today, Matt (Vella) has been telling us for a while he was very good so it was great to see him put that into action.’’

Friday’s action followed breeze ups at Seymour and Eagle Farm earlier last week, for which the videos and photos are already available on the Inglis website.

A Vancouver x Anatole colt (lot 176) of Shaun and Tal Nolen’s JCS Thoroughbreds topped the Seymour session at 10.16secs, while 2YOs by the likes of Dundeel, Written Tycoon, Nicconi, Shamus Award and Astern all breezed in outstanding fashion, and an All Too Hard x Max It Out colt (lot 49) was the best at Eagle Farm for KBL Thoroughbreds.

The Inglis Ready2Race Sale has in recent years achieved the highest winners-to-runners ratio of any sale of its kind in Australasia.

Not only did this year’s G1 Doncaster Mile winner Nettoyer come through the Inglis Ready2Race Sale, since 2014 the sale has produced almost 400 individual winners with an average earnings figure per runner of over $91,000.

It has also been a significant boon for the Hong Kong market, producing 30 individual winners of 70 races in the territory since 2018, 38% more wins than graduates of the next best Australian breeze-up sale.

Breeze ups continue at Taupo tomorrow where 48 juveniles will be put through their paces.

Videos of those breezes will be available at inglis.com.au by Wednesday.

Inspections for the Inglis Ready2Race Sale – to be held as a live auction at Riverside Stables - begin on Friday October 16.

The sale is on Tuesday October 20 at 10am.
