Behemoth made it back-to-back G1 wins, Classique Legend surged further into Everest calculations, Dame Giselle won a third consecutive leg of the Princess Series and Taikomochi outstayed his rivals on his way to a G1 berth.
That was the wash-up of another big day for Inglis graduates and clients, who have already enjoyed a huge month of success to start the spring carnival.
It was Behemoth (All Too Hard x Penny Banger) who again stole the show, backing up his win in the G1 Memsie Stakes three weeks ago with a similarly dominant victory in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield.
Behemoth is one of 49 Inglis G1-winning graduates since 2018.
He’s a $120,000 Great Southern Sale weanling purchase for Paul Guy’s Heritage Bloodstock from Tyreel Stud’s draft.
His win capped an enormous day for Tyreel, who also offered Classique Legend for sale.
Tyreel’s Linda Monds was delighted with the day’s results.
“Our boys are really flying the Tyreel flag for us at the moment,’’ Monds, who along with her husband Laurence bred both Behemoth and Classique Legend, said.
“Both Behemoth (pictured) and Classique Legend I thought mid race were in positions where it looked like they were going to find it hard to win but they both got out and found a way. It’s amazing.
“They’ve both been brilliantly managed and brilliantly placed by their respective trainers and hopefully they’ve both got even more in store throughout the spring.
“We also had Academy, a Classic graduate, win the last race and had Every Rose and Montefilia race well in the Tea Rose, so it’s just been the most fabulous afternoon for us.’’
At Randwick, Classic sale-topper Classique Legend (Not A Single Doubt x Pinocchio) galloped into equal second-favourite for The Everest with an arrogant win in the G2 The Shorts while Easter darling Dame Giselle (I Am Invincible x Ballet Society) put her hand up for ‘Australia’s best 3YO filly’ tag with success in the G2 Tea Rose Stakes.
For Classique Legend, the victory reconfirmed to buyer Carmel Size just how good her 5YO is.
“The knockers can all go away now, that’s his best win yet and he wasn’t even fully ready to go today, he was only 85 per cent fit,’’ an elated Size said post-race.
“He’ll go to the Premiere Stakes in a fortnight now and then another fortnight into The Everest. He’s pulled up so well and I’m telling you, this horse is a freak.
“I always knew he was something out of this world and now, and only now, people are starting to listen and they’ll keep listening as they watch him for the rest of this campaign and beyond.’’
Based on the dominance of today’s win, TAB made Classique Legend a $6 second favourite in the $15m The Everest alongside Inglis’ representative Gytrash, with only Premier Yearling Sale graduate Nature Strip ($3.50) shorter in the market.
Size purchased Classique Legend for $400,000 on behalf of Bon Ho – whose slot he will run in in The Everest - at the 2017 Classic Yearling Sale from Tyreel.
Dame Giselle made it a third consecutive win for the preparation when again defeating her arch-rival Hungry Heart in the Tea Rose.
It sets up another mouth-watering clash between the pair in the G1 Flight Stakes in two weeks.
Bred by China Horse Club, Dame Giselle is a $500,000 Easter Yearling Sale buy for Go Bloodstock Australia, from the draft of Sledmere Stud, whose Royston Murphy described her as “a mighty filly’’.
“She just keeps beating them, she’s an absolute ripper and now it’s on to the G1,’’ Murphy said.
“We offered her at Easter for China Horse Club, our biggest supporters so it’s fantastic to get this result for them.
“Everyone wanted a piece of her at Easter and for Go Bloodstock, a big congratulations to Sir Owen Glenn and the team.’’
And the Terrann Investments-bred Taikomochi will be given his chance in the G1 The Metropolitan thanks to a dashing on-speed win in the G3 Kingston Town Stakes.
Trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, with BBA Ireland, bought Taikomochi for $180,000 at the Easter Yearling Sale, from the Kitchwin Hills draft.
Andrew McClure then purchased a 5% share of him in the June (Early) Inglis Digital Online Auction for $5000.
