Three Legs Down - Dame Giselle Set to Make a Clean Sweep of Princess Series

Mark Smith - Saturday September 19

Dame Giselle is on track to emulate the deeds of Angst and Samantha Miss and make a clean sweep of the Princess Series after claiming the third leg, the Group II Darley Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Three down one to go Dame Giselle (Steve Hart)

The market had it down to a match race between the daughter of I Am invincible and the flashy Frankel filly Hungry Heart and so it proved.

Despite a tendency to over-race when Miss Canada pushed forward, Dame Gisselle is as foolproof as they come.

Tommy Berry gave the Peter and Paul Snowden trained filly an easy time in the final 50 metres to defeat Hungry Heart by a half-length with the leader Vangelic (Vancouver) staying on strongly to be one and a quarter lengths back in third.

Well done girl - Tommy Berry shows Dame Giselle some love (Steve Hart)

“Great ride by Tommy who lobed into a lovely spot from a good draw but she possesses the turn of foot when needed,” Paul Snowden said.

Snowden said he does not think the 1600m of the Flight Stakes will prove a problem.

“Her dam was twice a winner at a mile so the pedigree suggests she will run it. She is an on-speed runner and she can sit another furlong and wait and that turn of foot will take her a long way.

“She struck wet tracks after the Golden Slipper at the end of last preparation and she is no as effective as she is on top of the ground so we will be praying for a bit more dry weather in Sydney.”

Hungry Heart had to overcome difficulties when being kept in a pocket by Thermosphere and no doubt her supporters will be confident she can reverse the decision in the Group 1 Flight (1600m) Stakes at Randwick on October 3.

Winner of the Group II ATC Reisling Stakes and the $1 million Golden Gift at two, Dame Giselle won the first two legs of the Princess Series, the Group II ATC Silver Shadow Stakes and the Group II Furious stakes at her first two starts at three.

Purchased by Go Bloodstock for $500,000 out of the Sledmere Stud draft at Inglis Easter, Dame Giselle advances her record to 5 wins and two placigns from 9 starts with earnings of $1,196,250

Dame Giselle was a $500,000 Easter Yearling

Dame Giselle was bred by China Horse Club who made the final bid at $350,000 for Dame Giselle’s dam Ballet Society at the 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale when carrying the daughter of I Am Invincible.

Dame Giselle is a three-quarter sister to Listed MRC Merson Cooper Stakes winner Steal My Kisses out of the Group II VRC AV Kewney Stakes and Group II MRC Angus Armanasco Stakes winner Ballet Society, who was third in the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas.

Ballet Society has a yearling colt by Pride of Dubai, but will have no foal this year after missing last spring.
