First Stakes-Winner for Sacred Falls

Mark Smith - Friday September 18

Waikato Stud’s ill-fated, dual Group 1 Doncaster Mile winner, Sacred Falls was represented by his first stakes-winner at Newcastle on Wednesday when the John O’Shea-trained All Saints' Eve emerged from a zip-fastener pocket to power home in the Group III Yarraman Park Tibbie Stakes (1400m).

A milestone first stakes-winner for Sacred Falls, All Saint's Eve (Steve Hart)

Sent off a lukewarm favourite under James McDonald,  All Saints' Eve enjoyed a cosy run from an inside barrier before finding clear air inside the 250m to defeat Yamazaki (Real Saga) by three-quarter of a length with Wandabaa (Wandjina) a long-neck back in third.

A homebred for Waikato Stud and rosemont Stud, All Saints' Eve advances her record to 4 wins a second and a third from 8 starts with earnings of $213,470.

“She’s been a delight to train and an honour to train for Waikato Stud and Rosemont Stud,” O’Shea said.

“It’s always special when James (McDonald) rides them as well.

“She has been going so well this prep and the team at home have done a wonderful job.

“We are keen to get her up in the ratings this season so we can get a nice weight in the Coolmore (Classic) in the autumn so we’ll see how the handicapper sees her after this, she may have one more before a break.”

A half-sister to Group 1 New Zealand One Thousand Guineas winner Hasahalo (Savabeel), All Saints' Eve is out of the Encosta de Lago mare Halloween who is a sister to the stakes-placed Just Forget it and a half-sister to the dam of the Group II MVRC Mitchelton Wines Vase winner and Group 1 ATC Spring Champion stakes third Savy Nature and the Group III ATC Ming Dynasty Handicap winner Addictive Nature.

A $725,000 Easter yearling, out of the stakes-wiing Danehill mare La Lagune, Halloween has a 2yo Savabeel colt that was purchased for $230,000 out of the Waikato draft at the NZB Yearling Sale at Karaka.

The daughter of Encosta de Lago died after producing another Savabeel colt last spring.

Sadly, 4-time Group 1 winner Sacred Falls also died late last year at Waikato Stud. The 10yo son of O’Reilly was covering his fifth book of mares at the famed thoroughbred nursery when he fell ill with liver problems and could not be saved.

It was a double on the day for Waikato Stud whose colours were carried to victory by the very impressive 3yo Ocean Park filly Bargain who came with a barnstorming finish from near last to win a quality laiden maiden over 1400m.
