Widden Stud Secure Anders

Media Release - Wednesday September 16

In a vintage crop of three year-old sprinting colts, there is none better than high octane speedster Anders with Widden Stud delighted to announce its purchase of an interest in the ownership of the record breaking son of Not a Single Doubt.

“ We are thrilled to joining the ownership group of this exciting colt for the remainder of his racing career and to be chosen as his future stallion home,” said Widden Stud's Antony Thompson

“He is an outstanding looking colt, with blistering speed and a lovely pedigree, these are the types of stallions that have been the key to our success at Widden."

Anders wins the G3 ATC San Domenico Stakes in race record time

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Anders is undefeated this season winning the Listed ATC Rosebud (1100m) and Group III ATC San Domenico Stakes (1100m) by a combined margin of eight lengths.

He demonstrated rare versatility in winning the first of those races on a heavy 9 surface before stepping out on good footing to set a new race record in the San Domenico of 1:02.67, which was just a whisker outside of the Rosehill course record set in 2007.

"He's very good. He is possibly our best and so I was hoping he'd do something like that today, he's a very exciting horse,” said his co-trainer Ciaron Maher after the race.

“I wouldn’t be afraid to put him into any race.”

Anders is the highest rated three year-old colt this season according to Timeform and is the $2:50 favourite for the Group I MVRC Moir Stakes (1000m) on September 25.

Anders was purchased at the Magic Millions by Aquis Farms and Ciaron Maher Racing for $670,000 in 2019.

Shane McGrath who did the bidding on behalf of Aquis said, “He was a star yearling that has developed into an elite sprinter. There was enormous interest from most of the major farms and we believe we have found the right home for him at Widden Stud."

One of the fastest of 73 stakes-winners sired by Redoute’s Choice’s now retired sire son Not a Single Doubt, Anders has a diverse female pedigree bristling with Black Type.

His first two dams are sired by Kentucky Derby winners War Emblem and Sunday Silence adding quality, depth and hybrid vigour to his obvious speed profile that fits perfectly with Widden Stud’s proven criteria for stallion selection.
