Cambridge Stud's Almanzor leading first-crop sire at Arqana

Media Release - Sunday September 13

Almanzor’s first-crop Northern Hemisphere yearlings were hugely popular during Part I of Arqana’s Deauville Select Yearling Sale sale last week and that trend continued for Part II.

On the closing day of the auction Almanzor had another three six figure sales which ensured the Cambridge Stud shuttle stallion ended the three-day Deauville auction as the leading first-season sire.

A half-brother to Group 1 winner Miss Temple City had set the scene on the opening day of the sale when he fetched his sire’s highest price of €280,000 (NZ$495,000).

Almanzor colt from Glittering Tax bought by HKJC for 280,000 euros

The Ecurie des Monceaux sold colt is destined for Hong Kong after Mick Kinane signed for him on behalf of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

A filly offered by Haras d'Etreham led the way on day two when also selling for €280,000 (NZ$495,000) to Broadhurst Agency. The daughter of Listed winner Sefroua is also a half-sister to the Stakes winners Suphala and Sivoliere.

Agent Oliver St Lawrence was a prominent buyer at the auction and he struck with two high-priced purchases by the European Champion Three-year-old.

He went to €260,000 (NZ$462,000) for a son of Almanzor and €250,000 (NZ$462,000) for a daughter.

In total Almanzor had 19 yearlings sell at an average of €126,789 (NZ$225,000) and median of €100,000 (NZ$177,000).

Almanzor’s first New Zealand bred yearlings will be offered at the Australasian sales in 2021 and he is currently booked full for his third season at Cambridge Stud.
