Richly Deserved Group 1 for Dream Ahead's Dream Of Dreams

Mark Smith - Saturday September 5

A 6yo son of 7-season Emirates Park shuttler Dream Ahead (USA), Dream Of Dreams came close to spoiling the swansong of Darley Stud’s new boy Blue Point in last year’s Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Ascot but he is now a Group 1 winner in his own right following a flawless performance in the Sprint Cup (6f) at Haydock.

Coming off a 7-length romp in the Group II Hungerford Stakes at Newbury on August 15, Dream Of Dreams, under Oisin Murphy, defeated the Pivotal gelding Glen Shiel by a length and a quarter with the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup winner Golden Horde (Lethal Force) a neck back in third.

Defending champion and this year’s Diamond Jubilee Stakes winner Hello Youmzain clocked in fifth, three and three-quarter lengths from the winner, however, the Cambridge Stud bound son of Kodiac has some additional promotional material as he defeated Dream Of Dreams in both those races.

Following his rapidly closing second to Blue Point in June last year, Dream Of Dreams finished the season with three sub-par efforts and returned to the stables of Sir Michael Stoute as a gelding.

Philip Robinson, representing winning owner Saeed Suhail told Racing TV: “He’s just all of a sudden improved. The gelding operation has helped, without a shadow of a doubt. His mind is in the job.

“He’s a different horse now and I think Sir Michael’s big trick with him is to keep him fresh and he’s giving him plenty of time between races. He’s thriving.

“He’s discovering how easy it is, now he’s got his confidence. Onwards and upwards.

“Champions Day (Qipco British Champions Sprint) is very possible.

“I think that will probably be his next target.”

Dream Ahead (Mark Smith)

Dream Of Dreams is the best of five winners out of the unraced Dansili mare Vasilia who is a half-sister to the crack sprinter Airwave (Air express) the dam of three stakes winners including Meow (Storm Cat) the dam of Coolmore’s 4-time Group 1 winner Churchill (Galileo) as well as Clemmie (Galileo) who emulated her dam by winning the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes.

Vasilia has a two-year-old Frankel colt named Fantastic Fox.and a yearling filly by Galileo who is catalogued for Tattersalls Book 1 next month..

Dream Of Dreams becomes the fourth Group 1 winner for Dream Ahead (Diktat) following Al Wukair (Prix Jacques le Marois), Donjuan Triumphant (British Champions Sprint Stakes) and Glass Slippers (Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp).
