First Season Sire Form Guide

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 4

Audience interest in the topic of first season sires and which will be the leader by individual winners come July 31, 2021 has led us to look a little closer at the leading contenders, so if you are thinking of having a flutter with Ladbrokes then read on.

The table below features information on the Top 10 contenders as listed in the Ladbrokes market as at August 4, click to view their market.

A notable absentee and a horse with the perfect race and pedigree profile for early success is Newgate Farm’s Extreme Choice, but the kicker for him is lack of numbers and in the quest to be leading first season sire by individual winners, you need volume of horses to run for you.

He has just 48 two year-olds, so his task is well near impossible given the majority of his rivals have 100 plus juveniles, but that said I would not be at all surprised to see Extreme Choice make a bold bid, if not to take the title by winners, then certainly by earnings.

Victorian candidates Frosted (USA) and Cable Bay (IRE) are two more absentees whose yearlings sold well, but they will both find it hard going with only 60 plus two year-olds to run for them.

So is there any value to be had on closer inspection?

Written Tycoon’s fleet footed sprinter Winning Rupert is probably the best bet at odds given his profile and the good showing last season by Written Tycoon’s first son to go to stud Rich Enuff.

Winning Rupert

Off an $8,800 fee, Rich Enuff produced seven first crop winners from 25 runners including a stakes-winner, offering more than a little optimism for the prospects of Winning Rupert.
