American Pharoah Colt Impresses in Trial

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday September 1

The two year-olds are always out and running a touch earlier in New Zealand than Australia and this morning at the Ruakaka trials we saw the first Southern Hemisphere bred juvenile by American Pharoah (USA) step out to record an impressive win.

A$150,000 Karaka Book One purchase for his trainer Tony Pike from the Curraghmore draft, the unnamed colt was allowed to find his feet before surging home over the top of his rivals to win his 700m heat by a couple of lengths eased down,

He is the first foal of Group I placed stakes-winning Alamosa mare Strada Cavallo.

American Pharoah was the Champion North American First Season Sire in 2019 with 27 first crop winners six different countries including four stakes-winners so is anticipated to make his presence felt here as well given the versatility of his offspring.

American Pharaoh is back at Coolmore Australia this spring at a fee of $55,000.
