Ladbrokes First Season Sire Betting

Tara Madgwick - Monday August 31

Ladbrokes have published a market on who will be the leading first season sire by individual winners for 2020/2021 season and the favourite is the obvious pick.

Newgate Farm’s Golden Slipper winner Capitalist has been put up a $2.50 favourite with his strong sale ring results and plentiful two year-old crop stamping him as the standout of the group.

A Champion Two Year Old that dominated his peers, Capitalist has over 160 juveniles to run for him this season with his yearlings selling for up to $750,000 and averaging over $150,000 across the board.

Other precocious speed horses with their first runners this season include Flying Artie, Extreme Choice, Astern and Star Turn, while Champion European 2YO Shalaa (IRE) will have his supporters as a son of champion sire Invincible Spirit.

The dark horse in the field is undoubtedly Coolmore’s US Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (USA) who was the Champion North American First Crop Sire last year producing 27 winners in six countries including four stakes-winners.

His progeny have proven adept on turf and were successful from 1000 to 1700m in their first season, so if he can replicate that sort of success American Pharoah will be the horse to beat.
