European and US Blood Combine in New Treasure

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 28

Irish trainer Jim Bolger is also a successful breeder and one of his homebred colts New Treasure opened his account in the Group III Round Tower Stakes (6f) for two year-olds at The Curragh overnight.

Let go at the long odds of 66-1, the New Approach colt improved sharply on his debut seveneth at the same track earlier this month.

New Treasure scored a tenacious half length win under Kevin Manning over the favourite Teresa Mendoza, a daughter of first season sire Territories.

“We were very confident that New Treasure  would run a good race and we didn't think that he wouldn't win. Kevin certainly felt that he could run a nice race today, said assistant trainer Una Manning.

“The dam won this race first time out and Jim is delighted with him. Things just didn’t work out for him the last day when he was a bit keen first time out.”

New Treasure is the 54th stakes-winner for Galileo’s Epsom Derby winning son New Approach, who was also trained by Jim Bolger.

His pedigree features an interesting mix of European and US bloodlines.

New Treasure is the best of three winners from US bred Congaree mare Maoineach, who won twice at Group III level in Ireland and traces back to US Group I winner Dispute.
