Ones to Watch – Swan Hill

Tara Madgwick - Monday August 24

Dundeel gave us two interesting maiden winners at Swan Hill on Monday, both from powerful Victorian stables.

The first to salute was the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young trained colt Clinched, who scored a last stride win in a very competitive big field of 14 in the 1300m maiden at his third start.

A $120,000 Inglis Premier purchase for First Light Racing / Busuttin Racing / Paul Willets Bloodstock Consultancy fro the Stockwell Thoroughbreds draft, Clinched is a half-brother to stakes-winner Qiji Phoenix and is the third winner from Testa Rossa mare No Mistaking.

Breaking his maiden in the next race over 1600m was the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained colt Let’s Karaka Deel.

Second on debut, he was a short priced favourite and was never in danger of defeat, racing on the pace and forging clear to win by a length and a half.

An $80,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase from the Wentwood Grange draft for Flying Start Syndications / Pinhook Bloodstock, Let’s Karaka Deel is the first foal of Tegwin, a winning half-sister by O’Reilly to stakes-placed Winkler from stakes-winner Anne Carina.

Dundeel stands at Arrowfield Stud this spring at a fee of $66,000.
