One To Watch - Cranbourne

After opening up as an $8 chance, the three-year-old Sebring filly Mozzie Monster went off an odds-on favourite at her career debut in a maiden over 1200m at Cranbourne on Sunday and it proved to be a very easy watch for her supporters.

Ridden by Jamie Kah for Caulfield-based trainer John Sadler, Mozzie Monster was among the slowest away.

She quickly gathered pace to race midfield before Kah pulled her out to the three wide line coming to the turn.

Once balanced up, Mozzie Monster lengthened stride to win going away by three and a half lengths from the Tavistock colt Anthemic with a further two and three-quarter lengths back to the Myboycharlie (IRE) gelding Compardy in third.

Bred by Widden Stud, Bill Duncan Bloodstock and Hatta Bloodstock, Mozzie Monster was consigned by Widden to the 2019 Magic Millions Yearling Sale where David Digney signed the ticket for $150,000.

The daughter of Sebring is a full-sister to the multiple Sydney winner Asterius out of the very accomplished Danetime (FR) mare Valentine Miss.

A $12,000 Perth Magic Millions Yearling purchase by Shane Edwards, Valentine Miss was a 6-time winner including the Group III MRC How Now Stakes when transferred to Mark Kavanagh.

Mozzie Monster was a $150,000 Magic Millions yearling

Retired with a record of 6 wins and 13 places from 33 starts with earning approaching half a million dollars, Valentine Miss was back in the sales ring at the conclusion of her career on the track, making $155,000 to the bid of Belmont Bloodstock at the 2012 Inglis August Thoroughbred Sale.

Out of the stakes-placed Housebuster (USA) mare Torolosa, Valentine Miss has a 2yo star Witness filly named Argyle Pink who was purchased out of the Widden draft by John Foote Bloodstock / Tony Gollan Racing for $165,000 at this year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Valentine Miss has a yearling colt by Sebring, one of 152 live foals from the final crop by sadly missed Widden Stud stallion. She was covered by Written By last spring but missed.
