Bluebloods Come Up Short

Tara Madgwick - Monday August 10

The 1100m maiden at Pakenham on Monday was notable for including the offspring of champion mares Black Caviar and Miss Andretti in the field, but at the winning post neither of those three year-olds were victorious.

Ready for Caviar, a three year-old filly by More Than Ready (USA) from Black Caviar was having her second start following a debut second at Ballarat, while Mr Raikkonen, a Shamus Award colt from Miss Andretti was making his debut.

Mr Raikkonen finished off well to charge home for third, while Ready for Caviar faded over the latter stages to be seventh beaten over eight lengths.

The winner Zipping Boy showed plenty of ability on debut and his win was not unexpected as the Jerome Hunter trained son of Squamosa was well supported in the market.

A modest $26,000 Magic Millions Tasmania purchase for Graebar Park from the Brooklyn Park draft, Zipping Boy is the third winner from unraced Hussonet (USA) mare Zip Zip, a full sister to Group III winner Husson Lightning.

Zipping Boy is another smart type bred on a winning nick featuring Not a Single Doubt and Hussonet that has produced 17 winners from 23 runners including three stakes-winners headed by dual Group I winner Extreme Choice.

His sire Squamosa stands at Sun Stud this spring at a fee of $4,400.
