Outstanding Weekend for Maurice

Mark Smith - Sunday August 9

It was a big weekend in Japan for fans of Horse Of The Year Maurice (JPN) with three of his daughters making winning career debuts.

First up, on Saturday Christophe Lemaire guided the favoured Tomoyuki Umeda-trained filly T O Mary (Maurice x Reagle Mary by Afternoon Deelites) to a 2-length score over the Admire Moon filly Mountain Musume in a 1200m Newcomers race at Sapporo.

Not long afterwards the Yutaka Okumura-trained Stutti (Maurice x Lilavati by Zenno Rob Roy) defeated the favoured Deep Impact colt Red Belle Aube by a head in a Newcomers race over 1600m at Niigata.

To complete the trifecta the Hidetaka Otonashi-trained Infinite (Maurice x Morganite by Agnes Digital) justified her favouritism in Sunday’s Newcomers race over 1600m at Niigata with a 2 length romp over the Just a Way filly Belle Vogue(JPN).

A three-season shuttler to Arrowfield Stud, Maurice (JPN) will have his first crop of 83 live foals on the track this season.
