Facile Win in The Rosebud for Anders

Mark Smith - Saturday August 8

With Aquis Farm’s champion Not A Single Doubt colt Farnan waiting in the wings, they have a more than able deputy in another son of Not A Single Doubt, the glorious chestnut Anders who turned a competitive looking Listed The Rosebud at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday into a walk in the park.

One horse race - Anders bolts in (Steve Hart)

Ridden by Jason Collett for trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Anders jumped smartly and took up the running.

The well supported The Face made sure Anders did not get everything his own way. Shortly after turning for home, Anders dropped The Face and the others were off the bit chasing.

Under little more than a hand ride over the final 100 metres, Anders defeated the Written Tycoon colt Ole Kirk by four and three-quarter lengths with a further one and three-quarter lengths back to the well-backed Rubick gelding The Face who battled on well for third.

“He’s a proper colt that’s for sure, they are going to have a lot of fun with him,” stable representative Annabel Neasham said.

“He’s always worked like one of the best and we knew he had a lot of ability but he did a few things wrong. Aquis have got another good one.”

Collett was back on Anders for the first time since the chestnut colt made his career debut when fourth at Randwick.

"I actually trialed him, his second trial as an early two-year-old and he won by about eight or nine lengths and I came out with the big statement that this is a serous racehorse," Collett said.

"He didn’t quit live up to that at his first start, but he is on his way now.

"He’s a beautiful animal. As soon as I got on him, the shoulder, the neck on him, he’s a proper horse.

“He is a short trip horse, 1200m he will get away with, but it is hard to know with a bit of time. The way he has  come on from his first run to now he may get further with time.”

Purchased by Aquis Farms Pty Ltd/Ciaron Maher Racing for $670,000 out of the Arrowfield Stud draft at the 2019 magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Anders advanced his record to 3 wins, 1 second and 1 third from 7 starts with earnings of $206,615.

Anders a $670,000 Magic Millions Yearling

He is the fourth foal and third winner from as many to race out of the War Emblem mare Madame Andree who was imported in utero with her Japanese-bred mare Glamour Stock (Sunday Silence) who is a half-sister to three stakes-winners including the Champion 2YO Colt in Canada in 1999, Exciting Story (Diablo), whose seven wins included the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont.

Although she failed to race, Madame Andree is certainly paying her way at Arrowfield.

Her first foal to sell, the stakes-placed Snitzel colt Battleground, made $900,000 to the bid of James Harron Bloodstock.

At this year’s Magic Millions at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale, George Moore Bloodstock/Gary Moore Racing made the final bid of $360,000 for Madame Andree’s colt from the first crop of Shalaa (IRE).

Madame Andree has a weanling filly by Snitzel and was covered by Pariah last spring.

Anders becomes the 73rd stakes-winner for the pensioned Not A Single Doubt.
