One to Watch – Ballarat

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 7

A lightly raced filly by European sire sensation Kingman that wins in the Yulong colours was always going to be our ‘One to Watch’ on Friday.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, three year-old filly Dress improved on her debut second last month to score a commanding three length win in the 1400m fillies and mares maiden at Ballarat on the Synthetic track.

She started favourite and never looked in danger of defeat.

Dress is a homebred for Yulong, who bought her Juddmonte Farm bred dam Cross Cave from the 2016 Tattersalls July Sale for 20,000 guineas in consultation with Sheamus Mills Bloodstock.

She was subsequently covered by Kingman and sent to Australia with Dress being her first foal.

Cross Cave raced only once and is by Rail Link from stakes-winner Valentine Girl, who comes from the family of Group I ATC Sydney Cup winner Stand to Gain.

Cross Cave produced a filly by Choisir last spring and is now in foal to Yulong’s foundation sire Grunt.

Dress is the third winner from as many runners in Australia sired by Kingman, who stands at Juddmonte at a fee of 150,000 pounds in 2020.

His brilliant Group II winning son Calyx (GB) is available to Australian breeders at Coolmore this spring at a fee of $17,600.
