Business as Usual

Tara Madgwick - Thursday August 6

It was business as usual for Team Coolmore overnight with two new Group winning juveniles at Leopardstown, one sired by Galileo and the other from one of this daughters.

The Group III Tyros Stakes (7f)  for the colts produced a quinella for Ballydoyle with War Front colt Military Style scoring a neck win over the fast finishing American Pharoah colt Van Gogh.

The winner made a successful debut at Naas and was then placed in the Group III Marble Hill Stakes before making  further improvement to win here after setting the pace under Emmet McNamara.

“He's very genuine, just like his dam and her sister Forever Together. I think seven furlongs is a nice distance for him at the moment, he's not short of pace, but given his relaxed temperament a mile should be no problem to him either,” said McNamara.

“Hopefully he can step up from this. This race has usually been a very good trial for better things to come, there are some illustrious names on the roll of honour so hopefully he can follow in their footsteps.”

Recent Ballydoyle runners to have won the Tyros Stakes are horses such as Gleneagles, Churchill and Anthony Van Dyck, so there will be high expectations for Military Style and Van Gogh going forward.

A full brother to Group III placed King of Athens, Military Style is the second winner for Group I winning Galileo mare Together Forever, a full sister to Group I Epsom Oaks winner Forever Together and half-sister to Group I winner Lord Shanakill.

Military Style is the 93rd stakes-winner for War Front and is the tenth bred from a daughter of Galileo, the nick producing Group I winners Roly Poly, Fog of War and US Navy Flag, who shuttles to Valachi Downs in New Zealand.

The nick runs at 17.5% stakes-winners to runners.

The Donnacha O’Brien trained Galileo filly Shale took out the Group III Silver Flash Stakes (7f), scoring by a length and a half to take her record to two wins from three starts.

“She's done it very well and has obviously improved from her maiden,” said Donnacha O’Brien.

“I'd imagine that it'll be the Debutante Stakes [August 22] before heading on to the G1 Moyglare Stakes [September 13], something like that. It looks the obvious path with those two-year-old fillies.”

Shale is a full sister to two stakes-placed horses, but is the first stakes-winner for Holy Roman Emperor’s Group I winner Homecoming Queen, a sibling to Champion Older Horse Dylan Thomas and Group I winner Queen’s Logic, the family also producing this year’s Epsom Derby winner Serpentine, also by Galileo.
