Golden Rose Trial Watch

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 4

With no new season juveniles for a while yet our look at the Rosehill trials this morning will focus on a couple of Golden Rose nominated three year old colts that looked to have come back in great shape for Team Hawkes.

Brazen Beau colt North Pacific had only two starts last season finishing third to subsequent Golden Slipper winner Farnan in the Group II ATC Silver Slipper before heading for a spell and then returning for a soft win at Rosehill on July 11.

North Pacific is a stunning looking son of Brazen Beau.

An $800,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Orbis Bloodstock from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft, North Pacific topped that sale and it’s not hard to see why as he’s drop dead gorgeous.

Stepping out in a 900m heat, he was always in cruise control for James McDonald in scoring a neck win over another nice colt in Return with Honour (Fastnet Rock), and looks ready to return to the Black Type arena.

The following heat was run in slightly quicker time with the winner being Godolphin entry Damaged (Exceed and Excel), however I saw a lot to like in Written Tycoon colt Ole Kirk last season and watching this trial makes me think he has a lot more to offer.

Last seen finishing third in the Group I ATC Champagne Stakes over 1600m, which may have been a shade far for him, Ole Kirk surged to the line for Tommy Berry under his own steam to be sixth beaten a length and a half.

A $675,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Gilgai Farm draft for International Thoroughbred Solutions, Ole Kirk runs for a syndicate headed by Neil Werrett in whose colours he runs with his breeder Rick Jamieson of Gilgai Farm also retaining a share.

Ole Kirk won the Listed VRC Talindert on debut.

The second highest priced yearling at Inglis Premier behind North Pacific, he’s from Gilgai Farm’s iconic Black Caviar family being from unraced Naturale, a full sister to Black Caviar and half-sister to All Too Hard.
