Nicks That Click – Choisir and Galileo

Tara Madgwick - Sunday August 2

Choisir’s Group I winning son Olympic Glory (IRE) shuttled to Arrowfield Stud for just three seasons and while he’s yet to produce a stakes-winner here, he does have a very good mare in Europe called Watch Me, who won the Group I Prix Rothschild (1m) at Deauville overnight.

Winner of the Group I Royal Ascot Coronation Stakes as a three year-old last year, Watch Me looked to have a class edge over her rivals and duly saluted by three-quarters of a length.

"She won't improve again for this – you have to be at the top level to run and win a Group 1 – so we'll see how she comes out of the race," said ger trained Francis Graffard.

"She's entered in the Jacques le Marois or she could run in the Prix Jean Romanet and then the main objective will be the Prix de l'Opera. But we will enjoy this because it was a long morning for me!"

Retained to race by her breeders, Watch Me has won five of nine starts and is the best of three winners from winning Galileo mare Watchful a grand-daughter of French Group I winner Sharaya.

Watch Me is by a son of Choisir from a daughter of Galileo, those two sires proving to have a good affinity.

The successful Galileo x Danehill Dancer nick has been well documented, but Galileo also has good results with Danehill Dancer’s champion son Choisir.

That nick has produced eight stakes-winners from 64 runners, so runs at 12.5% stakes-winners to runners with Watch Me and another Group I winning filly Winter the best of them.

There are ample opportunities to explore this nick in Australia this spring.
