Del Mar Debut Winner for Vancouver

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 1

With his oldest Australian progeny just turned three, Golden Slipper winning sire Vancouver has enjoyed a successful first season with 11 winners and five stakes horses in the Southern Hemisphere, while in the US his progeny include talented filly Madone, who scored a stylish debut victory at Del Mar on Friday.

Tackling a mile on turf first up, the Simon Callaghan trained filly score by a length over the favourite Ivy League and is the third North American winner for Vancouver.

A $120,000 OBS March 2YO purchaser this year, Madone is the fifth winner for Indian Love Call, a half-sister by Cherokee Run to stakes-winner Allegre.

Vancouver had more Black Type performers in his first crop than any of his peers.

A Group I winning son of Medaglia D’Oro, Vancouver has had more Black Type performers from his first crop than any of his peers in Australia with his standout horse the South African trained Group II winner Mount Pleasant.

He stands this spring at a fee of $30,250.
