First Foal for Written By

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 31

The Champion 2YO Colt of his generation and a dominant winner of the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes, Written Tycoon’s brilliant son Written By has produced his first foal with the arrival of a gorgeous chestnut filly at Torryburn Stud.

Born on July 30, the filly is the third foal from Torryburn Stud’s unraced homebred Redoute’s Choice mare Suziqueue, a daughter of US Black Type performer Suzy Smart from the family of Group I winner Minstrella.

“She is a great foal, the spitting image of her Dad,” said Brett Cornish of Torryburn Stud.

Photographer Joan Faras was equally impressed with the youngster.

“She is a lovely filly,” Faras reported.

“You won’t see a better foal that is not even 24 hours old. She has great strength and athleticism, overall a quality filly.

“I have photographed Written By and I just love him.”

The first foal from Suziqueue, a colt by another Written Tycoon stallion in Winning Rupert, sold for $180,000 at Inglis Classic in 2020 indicating this lovely mare may be well suited to the Written Tycoon line sires.

True to the Written Tycoon type, Written By was a fast and natural two year-old, bred by renowned trainer Neville Begg and his family and trained throughout his career by his son Grahame.

Written By won five of six starts at two, his lone defeat a fourth in the Golden Slipper.

Completely free of Danehill blood, Written By has much to like in his pedigree making him a very appealing option for a myriad of mares.

Diverse bloodlines, coupled with his Group I race performance and sprinter’s physique made Written By a popular choice for breeders last spring covering 148 mares.

He stands this spring at Widden Stud at a fee of $22,000.
