Supremacy Dominates at Goodwood

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 30

A close relation to Darley’s brilliant shuttler Harry Angel (IRE), two year-old colt Supremacy  announced himself as a serious player on the juvenile front in Europe overnight with a dominant win a Goodwood in the Group II Richmond Stakes (6f).

The Clive Cox trained colt made it two wins from three starts when he bolted clear for a four length victory to become the second stakes-winner for his young sire Mehmas, a Group II winning son of Acclamation.

Clive Cox and winning rider Adam Kirby won this race last year with Golden Horde,  who went on to win the Group I Commonweath Cup at Royal Ascot this year.

"I wanted to get him out and get him in gear as he's a big, long-striding horse and once he gets into that stride, he covers a lot of ground. He's a horse I think a lot of,” said Adam Kirby.

"It was his speed that brought me to the front, which then allowed me to get the rail and give him a breather and fill himself up.

"He's got a bit of scope, so he will definitely train on. He's a big, long-striding horse and he's got a great personality, he's chilled out and takes these races day by day.

"I was really pleased with his attitude, he didn't get hyped up, worried or feel on edge. I really like him, I think it was a really smart performance."

A 65,0000 pound purchase from the Goffs Doncaster Yearling Sale for his trainer, Supremacy is the best of three winners from Triggers Broom, a half-sister by Arcano to Group I winner Xtension and to the dam of Champion Sprinter and dual Group I winner Harry Angel, who is by Acclamation’s son Dark Angel.

You can see in the pedigrees below the close relationship between Supremacy and Harry Angel, who stands at Darley NSW this spring at a fee of $16,500.

Currently the leading first season sire in Great Britain with 12 winners, Mehmas had a winning double at Goodwood with Acklam Express scoring later in the day.

He stands at Tally Ho Stud at a fee of 7,500 pounds.
