Macau Derby Winner for Foxwedge

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 20

Woodside Park Stud’s Foxwedge has sired stakes-winners all over the world with the latest success story coming from Macau where his four year-old Australian bred gelding Sacred Magnate won the Macau Derby on the weekend.

First racing in Victoria under the name of Expansion when trained by Leon and Troy Corstens, he scored a win and three placings from six starts here before transferring to Macau.

A $155,000 Magic Millions purchase for Malua Bloodstock from the Newgate Farm draft, Sacred Magnate was bred by Matthew Sandblom and was foaled and raised at Newgate.

A half-brother to stakes-placed Windjammer and Mediterranean, he is the last foal of Ekali, a stakes-placed half-sister to the dam of Golden Slipper winner Capitalist from the family of Golden Slipper winner Merlene.

Sacred Magnate is the 19th stakes-winner for Foxwedge, who stands at a fee of $11,000.
