More G1 Success for Kingman’s Persian King

Tara Madgwick - Sunday July 19

Winner of the Group I French Two Thousand Guineas last year, the Godolphin co-owned Kingman entire Persian King claimed his first Group I success in 2020 when taking out the Prix d’Ispahan (1m1f) at Chantilly overnight.

Given a lengthy break due to injury after finishing second in last year’s French Derby, the Andre Fabre trained Persian King hit top form at his third run this year to claim a two length victory, his seventh from 10 starts.

"He's given us some heartaches and some headaches as well," said Fabre. "He's a fantastic athlete and it's quite common for big horses like that to need a bit of time.

"He's going to run in August and the obvious option is the Prix Jacques le Marois. The other option – and it really is just an option – is the Juddmonte International at York. But for now it’s going to be the Marois."

Persian King is the first winner for Pretty Please, a winning three-quarter -sister by Dylan Thomas to Group I winner Planteur from the family of champions Peintre Celebre and further back Stradivarius.

Persian King was the first Group I winner for his exciting sire Kingman, whose brilliant Group II winning son Calyx is available to Australian breeders this spring at Coolmore at a fee of $17,600,
