Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 17

Time is fast running out for current season two year-olds to put a win on the board as juveniles, but this heat winner at Rosehill on Friday morning by Vancouver looks like she is up to the task.

The Chris Waller trained Canadian Spice was third on debut in the $500,000 Inglis Nursery last December and then was luckless in two starts at Warwick Farm back in March when finishing fourth and sixth.

She looked big and strong this morning and after settling back in last place after the jump, surged right around the field for Brenton Avdulla and won by the best part of a length under a hold.

A $600,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Woppitt Bloodstock / Hermitage Thoroughbreds from the Coolmore draft, Canadian Spice was the second most expensive yearling from the first crop of Vancouver.

Bred by Coolmore, she is a half-sister to three winners from stakes-winning General Nediym mare Paprika, whose current yearling filly by Fastnet Rock made $350,000 at Magic Millions this year.

Paprika is back in foal to Vancouver, so it would be nice to see Canadian Spice make further progress as a three year-old as her talent suggests.
