One to Watch – Ballarat

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 16

Transferred to Rosemont Stud last year, Shamus Award has made every post a winner since then with four stakes-winners this season and an exciting two year-old debut winner at Ballarat on Thursday.

The Matt Laurie trained filly A Pinch of Luck needed no luck when stepping out for the first time in the 1100 metre maiden, bolting away to win by six lengths as a favourite.

A modest $30,000 Inglis Premier Book 2 purchase for her trainer from the Golden Grove draft, A Pinch of Luck was bred by Golden Grove and is the first foal of A Pinch of Salt, who comes from an impressive female family.

The daughter of Star Witness is from a half-sister to Group II winners Prince of War and Perana as well as stakes-winner Prince Arthur and claims blue hen Princess Tracy (IRE) as her third dam.

This is the family of Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy and this season’s Group I VRC Australian Guineas winner Alligator Blood as well as Group I winners Danasinga, Master of Design and Tracy’s Element.

Golden Grove will be thrilled with the win of A Pinch of Luck as her dam has a yearling filly by Shamus Award to follow.

Shamus Award has sired the winners of over $5million in prizemoney this season and his seasonal strike rate of 56% winners to runners is the best of all stallions in the Top 50 by earnings!
