Kiwi Group One Star Retired

Media Release - Tuesday September 5
Fraser Auret will always have the fondest of memories of his two-time Group One winner Julinsky Prince.

Julinsky Prince - Race ImagesThe Marton trainer has enjoyed the best of times with the son of Darci Brahma, but all good things come to an end and time has been called on the John Bromley-bred and raced eight-year-old.

"I had a meeting with John and we've decided to retire him," Auret said. "He's been a very special horse to us – he was our first two-year-old winner, my 100th winner and my first Group One winner."

Julinsky Prince had an enviable strike rate of 11 wins from his 41 starts and a further 14 placings took the eight-year-old's stake earnings to just shy of $595,000.

The gelding's career highlights were his 2015 Group One successes in the Windsor Park Plate at Hastings and in the Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham.

He also claimed the Gr.2 Japan-New Zealand International Trophy at Tauranga, as well as Listed victories in the Ag Challenge Stakes at Wanganui and at Awapuni in the Rangitikei Gold Cup and the Anzac 1600.

"He was a fantastic horse and always better on the fresh side," Auret said. "He had such a will to win."

However, recurring aches and pains resulted in the decision to retire the stable stalwart.

"He had a few joint issues toward the end of his career," Auret said. "He did a massive job for everyone so he can enjoy a well-deserved retirement." – NZ Racing Desk.
