New Stakes-Winner for Aussie Blue Hen

Tara Madgwick - Sunday July 12

Australian bred blue hen Hveger was exported to Ireland in 2009 and has already given us champion racehorse Highland Reel, Group I winner Cape of Good Hope and Group II winner Idaho with progressive three year-old Nobel Prize adding to her success with a win in the Group III Ballysax Stakes (1m 2 ½ f) at Dundalk on Sunday.

Having his second run of 2020 after finishing fifth in a Group II race at Royal Ascot, the Aidan O’Brien trained son of Galileo was tenacious at the finish to score a nose victory in the staying test, his second win from just five starts.

Nobel Prize was retained to race by Coolmore and partners that include Australians Frank Meduri and Garry Moffitt, who bred and raced his mother Hveger from their blue hen Circles of Gold, the dam of champions Elvstroem and Haradasun..

A 19 year-old daughter of Danehill, Hveger has had nine foals to race for six winners, four of them stakes winners and a fifth Valdemoro, runner-up in the Group I VRC Oaks.

She went to Galileo in every season she was at stud in Ireland and has not had a foal since Nobel Prize.

Her best son Highland Reel has been shuttling to Swettenham Stud in Victoria and is slated to return this year at a fee of $16,500.
