Magnus' Front Page and News Girl Dominate Betting for The Kosciuszko

Mark Smith - Thursday July 9

A rush trip across the border to Corowa with his star performers Front Page and News Girl could well pay off for trainer Geoff Duryea as the brother-sister combination have been elevated to favourite and equal third favourite respectively for the $1,300,000 The Kosciuszko at Randwick in October.

Front Page dominates betting for The Kosciuszko

Both were having a let-up in Victoria but with the closing of the NSW-Victoria border looming, Duryea returned them to his stables at Corowa.

With the news that Snitz will not run, Front Page is as short as $4.50 for The Kosciuszko while News Girl is quoted at $11.

Both are in fine form. Front Page created a huge excitement with his two and three-quarter romp in the Listed A.R. Creswick Stakes at Flemington while News Girl was runner-up in the Group III Bellmaine Stakes at Caulfield in February before winning at Caulfield in May and was most recently fifth behind the promising Tavisan over 1100 metres at Caulfield.

Out of the Bel Esprit mare, Stacey Lee, Front Page and News Girl are fine representatives of the quality of horse produced by Sun Stud’s top-class stallion Magnus.

No guess work needed by breeders here. With four Group 1 winning millionaires and at least one stakes-winner in each of his first eight crops, the son of Flying Spur is a no-brainer at a fee of $15,400 in 2020.
