Deep Field Double at Sha Tin

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday July 1

The Hong Kong market is an important one for any young stallion and a winning double at Sha Tin on Wednesday for Deep Field with Winning Dreamer and True Legend has cemented his credentials as a fine source of winners for this jurisdiction.

Winning Dreamer was brilliant in winning on debut at Sha Tin on May 31 and kept up the good work at his second outing, taking on Class Three company to win in a breeze.

The Frankie Lor-trained gelding was more than a cut above his 13 rivals and drew a length and a quarter clear under Vincent Ho in a time of 55.64s.

“He’s even more relaxed now,” Ho said. “Class 3 for sure, even Class 2, won’t be a problem for him, and he can go 1200 metres. But everything depends on how he develops through the off-season but, for sure, he’s a smart horse.

“He’s still very young so that off-season development will be important, just like Golden Sixty last year, and we just don’t know right now, we’ll have to wait and see.”

A $300,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for Paul Chow’s Tartan Meadow Bloodstock for his long time client Peter KS So, Winning Dreamer was broken in and pre-trained “in house” at Kaipira Lodge by Alex Oliveira.

Winning Dreamer is a half-brother to stakes-winner Ocean Jewel and is the fourth winner from Group III placed Markisa, who is also the grand-dam of Group winners The Real Beel and Catch Me.

A member of the illustrious Eight Carat (GB) family, Markisa is a half-sister to Group I winner Shower of Roses and daughter of Group I winner Marquise.

Also saluting earlier on the program was his stablemate True Legend, who posted his second win when scoring over 1200m after placing at two subsequent runs since his first win in April.

A $530,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Segenhoe draft for Lucky Owners Pty Ltd, True Legend was the most expensive yearling by his sire sold at that sale.

True Legend as a yearling

True Legend is a half-brother to Group II placed God of Thunder and is the second winner from Group I placed Fastnet Rock mare Jolie Bay, a full sister to dual Group I winner and Royal Ascot hero Merchant Navy.

Winning Dreamer and True Legend are two of four winners in Hong Kong for Deep Field, who has enjoyed incredible success this season with 79 Australian winners making him the leading second crop sire by winners.

Deep Field stands at Newgate Farm at a fee of $55,000.
