Edinburgh Park Inglis Easter Round 2 Trio Prepared for Success

Time waits for no man and Ian Smith of Edinburgh Park is looking to the future with his three yearlings to be offered at the Inglis Easter Round 2 on Sunday, the trio now broken in by one of the best breakers in the country and entered and paid up for the 2021 Golden Slipper and Blue Diamond.

“We all know the challenges everyone is facing at present, but racing has continued and the reality is Group I races will be run and won next season and we believe we have Group I quality horses that deserve the best chance of fulfilling their potential,” said Ian Smith.

“They were sent to respected horseman Paul Blattman at Whispering Pines to be broken in and are now well educated and ready to go on with.

“We’ve entered them for the big juvenile races as we believe there is every reason to think they can progress towards these goals and follow in the footsteps of our current star graduates Rubisaki and Glenfiddich.”

Lot 61, a chestnut colt by Snitzel from Alice’s Smart (USA) comes from the family of Glenfiddich, who proved a remarkably tough two year-old this season collecting over $200,000 in prizemoney and finishing his campaign with a head second in the Group I ATC Champagne Stakes behind King’s Legacy.

The colt is a sibling to Group III placed Miss Wonderland and metro winners Spencer and Wonderbabe, his dam a half-sister to two other Edinburgh Park mares in Smokin’ Alice (USA), the dam of stakes horses Eleven Eleven and War Memorial, and Nothin But a Dream (USA), the dam of Glenfiddich.

“It’s been a very good family for us and we have high hopes for Glenfiddich in the spring as he heads towards the Group I Caulfield Guineas,” said Smith.

“War Memorial has only had the two starts, but won a trial the other day in good style so we look forward to his return.”

Lot 70 is a half-brother by Exceed and Excel to three winners headed by Group II placed Serena Bay from good producing stakes-winner Caiguna.

“It’s a good tough running family and it’s the first mating for this mare with Exceed and Excel, who is a champion sire,” said Smith.

Lot 14 is a blue-blooded filly being a half-sister by Group I sire Teofilo (IRE) to Group III winner Pohutukawa from Lumina.

By champion sire Redoute’s Choice, Lumina is a sibling to Group II winners Chinchilla Rose and Ferocity as well as Group III winner Leone Chiara, the dam of Champion Two and Three Year Old Colt Star Witness, now a successful sire.

“She’s an exceptional filly from the last Australian crop of foals by outstanding sire Teofilo and her female family is one of the best in the studbook,” Smith added.

These yearlings are now available for inspection at Riverside Stables and have new xrays and scope reports.
