One to Watch – Wangaratta

Tara Madgwick - Monday June 29

A Redoute’s Choice two year-old filly that wins on debut is always a candidate for ‘One to Watch’.

The David Brideoake trained filly Jacobe Queen was easy in the market at her first start, but raced above the expectation of punters to score a determined half neck win in the 1170m juvenile maiden at Wangaratta on Monday.

The win did not surprise her trainer, who believes she is a good filly in the making and will ultimately get a mile as her career unfolds.

Retained to race by her breeders, Jacobe Queen is the second foal and second winner for Group III winning Artie Schiller (USA) mare Vain Queen, who comes from the family of brilliant Group III winners Card Queen and Karuta Queen.

Vain Queen has had no luck at stud in her past two seasons, losing a foal and then missing, but is now in foal to Zoustar.

Jacobe Queen is the fourth two year-old winner this season for champion sire Redoute’s Choice, who has had major success with his juveniles this year including dual Group I winner King’s Legacy and Group III winner Prague.

Arrowfield Stud’s champion sire died last year and his last small crop of foals are weanlings.
