Kerrin McEvoy inducted into SA Hall of Fame

Dual Melbourne Cup-winning rider Kerrin McEvoy was inducted into the South Australian Racing Hall of Fame at a ceremony on Sunday.

McEvoy won the 2000 Melbourne Cup on brew and repeated that victory last year on Almandin and enjoyed successful years overseas as a retained rider for the Godolphin organisation.

McEvoy, who booted home five winners at Randwick on Saturday, was born in Streaky Bay and was honoured in a ceremony at the Stamford Grand in Adelaide.

The 1967 Newmarket Handicap winner Manihi was also inducted in the SA Racing Hall Of Fame. Manihi was also the sire of the champion galloper Manikato.

Jockey Jamie Kah was the big winner at the event with four awards, including the John Letts Medal, which "recognises excellence in riding and outstanding achievements at all race meetings throughout the season across the State."

Kah also won the SA Metropolitan Jockey of the Year as well as the Provincial Jockey of the Year titles to add to her being crown the South Australian Jockey of the Year.

The Group I Australian Guineas winner Hey Doc was named the SA Horse of the Year while training partners Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas were crowned the Metropolitan Trainers of the Year.
