Return on Investment

This young stallion is tracking towards breaking an Australian record for individual winners sired by a second crop sire this season and while his service fee has risen accordingly, his first son to stud offers breeders an affordable chance to continue their alliance with what has emerged as one of the hottest sirelines in the country.

Northern Meteor stood at Widden Stud for just four seasons before his premature death in 2013, but what the Group I winning son of Encosta de Lago achieved in that time has made him one of the most influential sires of the past decade with no fewer than six of his sons now standing at stud.

Northern Meteor

The Champion First Season Sire of 2012/2013, Northern Meteor was also the Champion Second Season Sire by winners the following year when his tally of 80 set an Australian record.

That record is now under siege by his Newgate Farm based son Deep Field, who has 75 winners on the board with a month and a half of the season to run.

Deep Field also has 15 individual stakes horses, which is also on a par with his sire Northern Meteor at the same stage of his career.

A record breaking sprinter that has been super popular with breeders, Deep Field has covered 1119 mares in his first five seasons, the first four of those at a fee of $22,000 before a rise to $44,000 last year and in 2020 he moves to $55,000.

Breeders have enjoyed outstanding returns in the sale ring from Deep Field, his stock consistently returning more than ten times service fee at Magic Millions and Inglis Easter.

Those breeders who have enjoyed the rise of Deep Field, will no doubt look hard at his stunning looking Group II winning son Cosmic Force, who retires to Newgate this spring at a fee of $16,500.

Cosmic Force has much in common with his sire Deep Field.

  • Both were OUTSTANDING YEARLINGS from the first crop of their respective sires.
  • Both won by RECORD MARGINS. Cosmic Force’s seven length win  in the Pago Pago is the largest winning margin of any Australian 2yo Group race since the start of this millennium!
  • Both BROKE RACE RECORDS– Cosmic Force broke the race record in the sire making Group II ROMAN CONSUL Stakes beating Microphone and Stand Out.
  • Both ran GROUP ONE PERFORMANCES WITHOUT WINNING A GROUP ONE. Based on ratings and the opinion of their trainer’s, both had legitimate Group I ability.
  • Both retired to stud at service fees that provide breeders with the potential to get an EXCELLENT RETURN ON INVESTMENT as highlighted in the table above.

Cosmic Force is available for inspection at Newgate Farm providing the perfect opportunity for immediate physical comparison to his sire and you will not be disappointed!
