Time Thief's In Good Time Breaks Two Year Drought in Ascot Quality

Mark Smith - Saturday June 13

After kick-starting her career with six consecutive wins culminating with the Listed Denise’s Joy Stakes at Scone over two years ago, the Tracey Bartley-trained In Good Time had been winless since before blowing the punters out of the water when leading at every call in Saturday’s Listed Ascot Quality (1200m) at Eagle Farm.In Good Time breaks a two year drought (Racing Queensland)

Sent off the outsider of the field as a $71 shot under Dale Smith the 5yo daughter of Time Thief held the challenge of Bandipur (Commands) by one and a quarter lengths with Scallopini (Snitzel) a nose back in third.

"It was a top-notch effort from her today and the exciting part for Tracy (Bartley) and the connections is that I think she's only going to improve this preparation, she was only third up today," Smith said.

"We knew Tarzan, Boomtown Lass and Deep Image would go fast early today, we mapped to get a nice run and she just did everything right, seemed to be getting stronger and stronger each furlong taking the gaps I just had to wait.

"I had the clock going in my head when I wanted to let her go and it seemed like forever, but she put them away like a good horse.

"My manager worked really hard to get me the ride knowing how competitive she was in similar races in the carnival last year, I'm not sure if she's sticking on but a race like the Gai Waterhouse would really suit her."

"Twelve hundred metres has probably been her peak in the past but I think she's matured into a mare who could get at least the 1400."

Purchased privately for $40,000 by part-owner Gerard Maher from breeder Bernie Howlett, In Good Time has come back from a severed tendon to advance her record to 7 wins, 1 second and 2 thirds from 22 starts with earnings of $334,050.

Maher ended up purchasing In Good Time’s dam Turbo Rose off Howlett when she was carrying a now yearling colt by Twin Hills Stud’s Odyssey Moon, which was put through the Berkeley Park Stud draft at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale where he failed to make his $25,000 reserve.

In Good Time is the best of four winners from five to race out of the winning Strategic mare Turbo Rose who hails from the family of outstanding stallion Centaine.

Turbo Rose has a 2yo filly by Outreach named Rose Sauvage who broke her maiden at Coonamble in March.

After foaling a filly by Divine Prophet last spring, Turbo Rose was bred back to Aquis Farm’s Group 1 winning son of Choisir.

In Good Time is one of six stakes-winners for the royally-bred Redoute’s Choice stallion Time Thief who now stands in South Africa.
