Coolmore Win G1 Thousand Guineas – Nicks that Click

Tara Madgwick - Sunday June 7

The Group I Newmarket One Thousand Guineas (1m) was run overnight with the Coolmore owned Galileo filly Love opening up to win by more than four lengths.

A Group I winner last season of the Curragh Moyglare Stud Stakes, the Aidan O’Brien trained filly was making her first appearance of 2020 and was dominant under Ryan Moore to score an easy win over Cloak of Spirits (Invincible Spirit) with race favourite Quadrilateral (Frankel) third after racing too keenly.

“Love is a very uncomplicated filly and we've always thought a lot of her. She's a typical Galileo filly and she was in control of the race from a long way out,” Moore said.

“I'd say it's a possibility that she'd stay (1m4f at Epsom). At the moment she looks the best three-year-old filly around. I don't know what the plan is but I'd say the Oaks is an option for her.”

Love has been installed a short priced favourite for the Oaks and has the overall record of four wins and two placings from eight starts

A homebred for Coolmore, Love is the best of four stakes-winners from Pivotal mare Pikaboo, a three-quarter sister to Group II winner Arabian Gleam and stakes-winner Kimberella.

Love has two full Group winning sisters in Peach Tree and Flattering that both won over the Oaks distance so stamina should not be a problem for her.

Pivotal mares have been highly successful when covered by Galileo, that exact cross producing 23 winners from 29 runners highlighted by 12 stakes-winners, six of them Group I winners for an impressive 41% stakes-winners to runners.

One of those Group I winners is The United States, who campaigned successfully in Australia and is very similar in appearance as a bright chestnut with a prominent white blaze.
