Scallopini, Another Yarraman Park Sold SW

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 30

Winner of the Listed $125,000 Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m) earlier this year, consistent Snitzel five year-old gelding Scallopini resumed from a spell at Doomben on Saturday to win the Listed BRC Channel 7 Hinkler Handicap (1110m).

Scallopini wins at Doomben - image Racing Queensland

Trained by Steve O’Dea for a big team of Proven Thoroughbreds owners, Scallopini stormed home from back in the field to score a last stride win over Boomtown Lass.

Purchased by Proven Thoroughbreds/Steve O'Dea for $200,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2016 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Scallopini has the overall record of nine wins and eight placings from 21 starts with earnings in excess of $450,000.

“When he was travelling so well coming to the turn, I knew he just needed the opportunity,” said Steve O’Dea.

“He’s been a great purchase for Proven Thoroughbreds and he just keeps improving. He’d be deserving of a few more stakes wins this preparation.”

Bred by Steve Gillard, Scallopini is the first foal of an unraced More Than Ready (USA) mare Rose Of Mulan, a daughter of crack racemare Lady Mulan, winner of the Group II ATC Light Fingers Stakes and placed in the Group I QTC TJ Smith Classic, Group I Coolmore Classic and Group I Flight Stakes.

Rose of Mulan has a yearling filly by Rubick that was also snapped up by Proven Thoroughbreds / Steven O’Dea for just $35,000 at Magic Millions this year.

Rose of Mulan has a weanling filly to follow by Extreme Choice, but will have no foal this spring after missing to Showtime last year.
