Second Winner for Scissor Kick

Mark Smith - Friday May 29

After just missing when making her career debut at the Sunshine Coast a fortnight back, the Gary Duncan-trained filly  Dzsenifer made no mistake at her second over 1400 metres at the Gold Coast on Friday to chalk up winner number two for Scissor Kick.

Beginning smartly for Sean Cormack, Dzsenifer sat outside the favourite Neutron who pulled fiercely for the majority of the race.

After looking to be under some pressure on straightening, Dzsenifer knuckled down to her work and at the line had a one and a quarter length margin on the Sebring filly See Marie with a short head back to the Spirit Of Boom gelding Corvo in third.Scissor kick - image Mark Smith

Dzsenifer was purchased by her trainer for $32,000 out of the Arrowfield Stud draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and she has already earned that back with interest.

She is the third winner from as many foals out of the Hussonet (USA) mare Phaedra whose dam Bella Cantata (Stravinsky) is a half-sister to the Group 1 VATC One Thousand Guineas winner Inaflury (Zabeel).

Arrowfield sold a full-brother to Dzsenifer at this year Inglis Classic with John Foote Bloodstock signing the cheque for $160,000 making him the highest priced yearling by Scissor Kick.

After missing to Olympic Glory (IRE) in 2018, Phaedra was covered by Showtime last spring.

A Group III winning son of Redoute’s Choice and narrowly beaten in the Group 1 Golden Rose, Scissor Kick is currently covering in France and does not look to be in Arrowfield’s plans for 2020.
