One to Watch – Gosford

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 28

Another day and another winner for Deep Field, this one a successful debutante in the Dynamic Syndications colours.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Duchess Marizza had shown good ability in her two previous trials and was expected to run well.

The three year-old jumped fast and sat outside the leader and race favourite Ultimate Thinker, before overpowering her in the run to the line take the 1100 metre maiden by a length.

It was a great effort on a heavy 8 track and she will no doubt take plenty of improvement from the experience.

Duchess Marizza as a yearling

She was a $100,000 Magic Millions purchase for Dynamic Syndications from the draft of Newgate Farm, who retain a small share in her ownership.

Duchess Marizza is the fourth winner from four to race from stakes-winning Scenic (IRE) mare Princess Marizza, a half-sister to Group II winner Buckle My Shoe from stakes-winner Rose of Marizza.

Princess Marizza was onsold by Newgate Farm last year fetching $45,000 at the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale and produced a colt by Flying Artie last year and is now in foal to Winning Rupert.

Duchess Marizza’s sire Deep Field is having a great season with some 72 winners on the board and still two months to go.

Deep Field

Deep Field stands at a fee of $55,000 at Newgate Farm this spring.
