Hinchinbrook Filly Wins for Trelawney Stud

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 27

The colours of leading New Zealand farm Trelawney Stud were carried to victory in the first race at Canterbury on Wednesday by two year-old Hinchinbrook filly Samiam Seussie, a $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Yarraman Park draft.

Easy in the market after an unplaced debut at Kembla earlier this month, Samiam Seussie proved that outing was no guide when she relished the heavy 9 track to score an easy two and a quarter length win in the 1250 metre fillies maiden.

“We always had a bit of an opinion of her and then she disappointed at Kembla, but I’m not totally shocked she’s come out and won,” said co-trainer Michael Freedman.

“She’ll have a little break now and I think she’s a filly with a future.”

Bred by Yarraman Park in partnership, Samiam Seussie is the second winner from stakes-winning Dubawi (IRE) mare Bippo No Bungus, a half-sister to Group II winner Torio’s Quest and grand-daughter of VRC Oaks winner Sandy’s Pleasure.

Samian Seussie was a $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase

Bippo No Bungus has a yearling colt by I Am Invincible and is back in foal to him again.

Samiam Seussie is the eighth two year-old winner this season for ill-fated Hinchinbrook, whose last crop of foals are yearlings of 2020.
