One to Watch – Newcastle

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 26

He was a hot favourite at Newcastle on Tuesday, but this Not a Single Doubt colt was made to work every step of the way to claim victory with he and the horse that tested him both worthy of ‘One to Watch’ status.

Meadow Land as a yearlingTrained by Kris Lees, Meadow Land was having his second start and first run back from a spell and led all the way to score a half neck win over the valiant Coat of Arms with more than six lengths back to the third horse.

Meadow Land runs in the colours of Ron and Judy Wanless and was a $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Newgate Farm draft.

Bred by Belinda Bateman, Meadow Land is the first winner for Group II placed Lonhro mare Twirl, who comes from the family of champion sire Fastnet Rock.

Meadow Land is the eighth two year-old winner of the season for now pensioned Not a Single Doubt, the sire of this year’s Golden Slipper winner Farnan.
