I Am Invincible Sprinter Stakes Stradbroke Claim

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 23

If there is one thing we know about the progeny of I Am Invincible, it’s that they only get better with age and a bold win in the Group II BRC TAB Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday for Victorem would suggest the five year-old gelding is only just starting to hit his peak.

A dominant winner of the $600,000 ATC Country Championship in 2018, the Jenny Graham trained Victorem has gone to claim a couple of Listed wins and was second in last year’s $1.3 million Kosciuszko.

Second up from a spell for this assignment, punters were a little wary after he bucked at the start at his previous run and was ordered to trial by stewards.

There was no sign of bad behaviour this time, as he travelled well for Mark du Plessis and charged to the line between runners to win by more than a length.

The Group I BRC Stradbroke (1400m) looms as a winnable race for the likable Victorem, who has the impressive record of eight wins and six placings from 19 starts with prizemoney of $1.2million.

“He ran right through the line, so I don’t think the 1400m will be a problem,” said Mark du Plessis.

Victorem was bought by his trainer for $65,000 at the Magic Millions 2YO's in Training Sale in 2016 from the draft of Symphony Lodge.

He is the first foal for Playful Miss, a Sydney metro winner by Foreplay from the family of Group I winner Ball Park. She was covered by Territories (IRE) last spring after slipping to Am Invincible the previous year.

Victorem is the 12th Australian stakes-winner this season for Yarraman Park’s champion sire I Am Invincible, who stands this season at a fee of $209,000
